75 years old lyricist Javed Akhtar honored with Richard Dawkins Award

The 75 years old lyricist Javed Akhtar has been honored with the Richard Dawkins Award and becomes the first Indian who has won this prestigious award. He is felicitated with this award for critical thinking, scrutinizing religious dogma, encouraging human progress, and humanist values. Earlier he was also honored with Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, the Sahitya Akademi Award, and five National film awards. Javed Akhtar has made the entire film fraternity proud winning the Richards Dawkins Award and becoming the first Indian to win this prestigious award.

Javed Akhtar is known as a poet, lyricist, and writer in the Indian cinema. He is very much vocal about his thoughts as he is often seen voiced his opinions over social issues such as CAA, Tablighi Jamaat, Islamophobia, etc. He is one such Indian celebrity who has been recognized for expressing his views fearlessly. Apart from Javed Akhtar, acclaimed artists, Bill Maher and Christopher Hitchens have also won this award. But never an Indian had won this award, so winning such prestigious award for his achievements Javed Akhtar definitely made his country proud.

Besides being a top-notch writer, Javed Akhtar is also known for his philanthropic activities and fair viewpoints in subjects relating to public welfare. The Richards Dawkins Award is named after the world-renowned biologist and this award is given to those who endorse secularism, rationalism, and science, and Javed Akhtar completely fits their criteria. Earlier this award was presented by the Atheist Alliance of America up but now it has been shifted to the center.
